| Location description | Muir Heritage Land Trust purchased Fernandez Ranch in 2005 as part of their ongoing land purchase plan. This property is significant in that it allows for a link of the Bay Area Ridge Trail to be created in a corridor that has been challenging for the overall plan through the years. The plan for this land includes building picnic and staging areas along with ADA accessible trail in the areas near the property entrance. Beyond the ADA trail, there are several miles of trail planned as “narrow” multi use trails. V-O-Cal will work with MHLT and the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council to bring 200 or more people to camp in this beautiful space and build up to 1.5 miles of new trail which will be designated Bay Area Ridge Trail when completed. Building this portion of the trail was contingent on MHLT receiving a significant portion of their grant money and the budget would not allow for completion of the trail without volunteer efforts. V-O-Cal will work directly with BARTC staff on the technical aspects and detail trail alignment. Several retaining structures and two puncheon structures will be incorporated in our work. |
